Mini-Lesson #15- Playing Games, Watching Movies & SEL!

Did you know that you can work on your SEL (social emotional learning) skills even while watching movies and playing board games?  Children are wired for learning and playing!  LEARN more in today's video!

Follow Up Activities:

  • This weekend watch a movie as a family and then use these questions to talk about the story and the characters.    Use Common Sense Media to get movie suggestions:  https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-lists

  • Play a competitive board game with a family member and focus on sportsmanship!  You might consider a sportsmanship award after every competitive game!  Watch the read aloud, Pig the Winner, to learn more about sportsmanship.

  •  Play a cooperative game or turn a competitive game into a cooperative game!
Games that can be turned into cooperative games:
    • Jenga
    • Don't Break the Ice
    • Suspend
    • Puzzles
Cooperative Games I Love:
    • Max (K-1)
    • Out Foxed
    • Race to the Treasure
    • Hoot Owl Hoot
    • Mole Rats in Space (2-4)
    • Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters (2-4)

  • Remember,  learning happens all the time!  Your brain is wired to learn and the best way for kids to learn is through play!!!
