Classroom guidance takes place approximately every other week in every classroom at Pond Cove School. Guidance lessons are designed to be developmentally appropriate and proactive in nature and are based on the American School Counselor Association and Common Core standards focusing on students’ academic, personal/social and career development.
Classroom guidance also allows me the opportunity to grow relationships with each and every Pond Cove student. Having close connections to all Pond Cove students means that if/when a student is in need of additional support, they are more likely to feel comfortable talking with me and seeking me out.
Examples of classroom topics:
- feelings and coping strategies
- developing a growth mindset
- understanding and acceptance of others
- developing problem-solving and decision-making skills
- conflict resolution
- healthy relationships/friendships
- Responding to peer aggression
