Confronting My Worries aka Mrs. G and the Elevator

I have had anxiety about being trapped in a small space as long as I can remember.  For the last 30+ years I have been actively avoiding elevators, tunnels, parking garages, and closets (to name a few).  After the workshop that I attended a couple of week ago, called "How to Stop the Worry Cycle" by Lynn Lyons, I am changing the way that I work with and support students that are struggling with worries.  The workshop also made me reevaluate the way I respond to my own anxiety.  In all the years of my life I have made very little progress handling my fear of small spaces.  In trying to avoid situations that may make me uncomfortable, I have missed out on exciting opportunities.  I chose not to go to the top of the Empire State Building.  I passed on the chance to check out underground caves.  When we visit family in Cape Cod, I often opt to be stuck in downtown Boston traffic to avoid going under the city in the tunnel.  Starting today, I am going on offense against my worry.  I am no longer going to let it rule my decisions.  Check out what I did today........

Thanks to my 2nd grade videographer!
